Do this more if you wanna let yourself down all the time...
The danger of setting your expectations on others...
To round out our three-part series on connection, let’s talk about expectations. The only good thing that comes from setting expectations for others is extreme disappointment… wait, that sounds like junk…
Here’s the thing…
Unreasonable Expectations
By now it should come as no surprise that when you set expectations for others you set yourself up for disappointment. To avoid this, self-security is required. A deep connection to yourself is helpful to get to that security. One of the ways we can get there is by acting with more confidence.
I write about how confidence creates connection in my latest book, “ABCs of High-Performance”, and it’s true. It’s important to live up to your standards and accept that not everyone has the same standards as you. Control the controllable. The easiest way to build confidence and the resulting self-security is through your language. Here, try this one on…
What is the difference when I say “Let’s meet around 8ish” vs. “I’ll be there by 8:07”?
Which one do you feel more committed to?
“Soft-talk” like “kinda, maybe, sort of, ish, like, almost like…” kills confidence and creates confusion that leads to mismanaged expectations. Get clear. Lose the soft talk.

If we get clear and connected with ourselves, we’ll get clear and connected with others…
The next time you have an opportunity to meet a hero, I trust you’ll be able to see them as a reflection of you, learn from the experience, good or bad and understand everyone’s out here doing their best. We’re all in the same storm, just on a different boat…
So go out and meet your heroes. Everyone holds a superpower and if you get off your phone for a minute and take a look around the world you live in, the cafe down the street, the bank, the dog park… you’ve got a bunch of heroes right there in your backyard.
Speaking about connecting with others…
This week is huge. Today I just opened up my waitlist for a community that brings together emerging artists, industry and creative professionals so that we can all write better songs, play bigger stages and live out that “I wanna be a rockstar” dream we had when we were kids. This is a great way to start your *sustainable* music career or explore your own creativity though connection with others just like you. To learn more, head on over to www.musicfitcollective.com/waitlist
I’ll send you my “3 Small Rocks” Video Mini-Series when you join. I made it to help you overcome pain, anxiety and self-doubt in a week! You’ll be able to book a call with me to see if the community is right for you. If it’s feeling good, you’ll be able to score a sweet Founding Members deal and refer some friends as well so you can grab back “Best Friend Ever” status. Ok ok ok… enough shameless plugging… I’m really excited to re-release Music Fit Collective. It’s my life’s playground and I hope you’ll join me.
Thanks for being you. Check out the waitlist and make it a great Monday!
