I’m Stepping Off Social This December.
Here’s why...
Alright friends, real talk.
The last few days hit me like a car. And if you’re wondering, I know what that feels like… see below. Circa May 9, 2020, Melbourne, Australia.
My brain’s been spread thinner than the ice on Calgary’s sidewalks.
I’ve been juggling too many platforms, too many ideas, too many tabs open in my mind…
and I felt the pull. The deep, gut-level call to step back from the noise.
So I’m taking December off social media.
Not as a dramatic exit.
Not as a productivity hack.
Just… because I need my focus back.
Because I’m tired of feeling like everyone’s narrator except my own.
Because the work I actually care about… the music, the writing, the healing, the craft… all that needs more spaciousness than a 15-second Reel can give me.
I want to create from a grounded place again.
I want to breathe without an algorithm watching.
I want to remember what it feels like to make something for the sake of making it.
The good news is today I found myself back on the right track… check it out. I’m 33 again! 😂
I want more of this. And, that took discipline. Getting to bed on time. Eating well. Training. Drinking water. Getting outside early… Discipline creates freedom (to borrow from Jocko Willinc’s ‘Extreme Ownership’)
So here’s what is happening:
December is my creative reset.
A quieter month.
A deeper month.
A month to rebuild my foundations before stepping into 2026 with real intention. (I’m training to be biologically 9 years younger than my age by my 39th on March 2…)
I’m keeping things here on because writing feels good.
Email feels human.
No doom scroll.
No dopamine circus.
Just you, me, and whatever shows up on the page.
I’m fighting the urge to ‘launch’ something right now.
I’m fighting the urge of asking you to join anything.
I’m fighting the urge to roll out a shiny new program.
I’m trying something new. Simply sharing the process. Go figure…
The rebuild, the reflection, the messy middle… and if it helps you feel a little less overloaded, perfect.
Take that with you.
This week, I’ll send out a few simple posts about the brainwaves I’ve been working with in my creative practice. Not “lessons,” not “modules” just things I’m using to get myself back online.
If you want to walk that with me, stay tuned.
If all you needed was this reminder that you’re allowed to take a break too… then good. Take it.
December’s for breathing again.
See you soon,
Mike
