Let's talk about apples...
Here's an insiders look at one of the keynotes I'm working on...
I’ve been drafting and crafting keynotes and workshop topics for my summer/fall series. Below I’ve included one of my drafts for a signature workshop explaining the holistic nature of the music industry professional, analogous to an apple. It’s a fun and interactive way of making simple a rather complex thought. I am excited to present this one!
That said, I’ve been working hard behind the scenes these past two weeks, hence the delay in my publishing. I’ve got a fresh look and will be resuming the series I started this upcoming Sunday.
First Friday is back!
Tomorrow is the First Friday of the month. That means you can book a 53-minute coaching session with me to consult on whatever you like. Whatever is coming up.
First come, first served! Limited availability! Almost sold out!
All the marketing to make you feel pressure and FOMO to book…
Seriously though, if you want some guidance or another set of eyes on something you’re coming up against, please consider chatting with me. I’ve learned many people who most need my help haven’t the means to book me regularly, so this is my way to make wellness accessible.
Book your session here if you feel aligned with that sentiment: https://tidycal.com/miketheschwartz/first-friday-pwyw
And now… the main feature…
I’d like you to take a moment and imagine an apple.
What image do you see? For many of us, it is a big, red, delicious apple.
For others, it’s a green, sour Granny Smith.
Some are even pink, so many options…
I bet you didn’t immediately think about the apple with worms inside. Rotting.
Or the apples that are all banged up, bruised, deformed, and left to waste.
These are the most beautiful apples out there.
They’re misunderstood, like some of my favourite rockstars.
Not all apples are equal. Yet, you judged me for putting those unusual apples on the same list.
You see the thing about these rogue apples is it’s not their fault; we only see the outside.
But an apple is a holistic being. It’s complex. Just like us music industry professionals...
The apple's skin symbolizes health and fitness. It protects and resists, like our wellness.
It’s the surface, and usually the first sign of when problems are at play. Cuts, scars, injuries, sickness—all the stuff we can see, touch, and feel. And far too often, it's accepted as “part of the gig”.
But it goes even deeper.
Peel back the skin, and we've got into the meat, the flesh.
The apple's flesh stores the nutrients. It gives strength and substance to fuel the apple's growth. It's like our mental and emotional well-being. It gives strength and substance to sustain performance and longevity. This is true in the studio, on the road, and in the grueling industry.
Just like an apple, when something threatens our mental health, a part of us dies. We lose sight of what matters. We get bruised. Far too often, we give up or turn to something else to numb the pain in our flesh. We treat our symptoms just to get by...
Which then affects us to the core.
Now, the core of the apple is just as you’d imagine... the core. It holds everything together and acts as the guiding light to let the apple grow into the apple it’s meant to be.
What’s our core?
Core values and purpose. It holds everything together and motivates us to overcome any challenges in our path.
But where did those values come from... they didn’t just fall from the sky, did they?
Well, yeah... kinda…
It starts with the seeds.
The seeds in the core symbolize the potential for apple growth. As many of you know, the seeds contain cyanide. When used, it can be toxic and stop growth. Just like the toxic thoughts and belief systems we subscribe to. At the core, that’s what fuels or stunts our growth… and as the saying goes, the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree...
When all you’ve got is a hammer… 🔨
We’ve been taught that this is the only way. We must play through the pain and ignore the bruises. We must ignore the fact that we’re not sleeping well. It’s part of it. We'll be able to sleep after the tour. We'll make time for ourselves after we finish the record. We don't have time to cook, we're so busy. And, my top favourite, we need that chaos to be artists! We need to live a life in emotional turmoil to make it. It’s all bullshit. I’m taking my apples and moving.
Just as every part of the apple is essential for its health. Every aspect of a Music Fit athlete's well-being is crucial for top performance. Neglecting any part can hurt the whole. This shows the need for a full approach to development.
Remember, I’m hosting one “Pay What You Want” Coaching Session tomorrow.
11:11 am MDT. I’d love to help guide you through whatever is coming up.
Let’s chat. 💫 And… if you just wanna take a quiz to find out what kinda rockstar you are… you can do that too. Check it out 👀
